ONDA Lifting: Pros and Cons of Microwave Facial Lifting
Explore the pros and cons of ONDA lifting, a microwave-based non-surgical facial treatment that promotes collagen regeneration and fat reduction for improved facial contours.

Hello,
This is SNU Plastic Surgery Clinic in Cheongdam.
Today, among non-surgical lifting procedures,
we will explore the pros and cons
of ONDA lifting.
What is ONDA?

ONDA is
a non-surgical facial lifting device
based on microwave technology,
developed by DEKA from Italy.
It uses special microwave energy (COOLWAVES™)
at a 2.45GHz frequency
to deliver energy to the deep layers of the skin,
promoting collagen regeneration,
inducing fat breakdown,
and simultaneously achieving
elasticity restoration and facial contour improvement.
The core principle of ONDA treatment
is achieved through two handpieces:
📌 3mm Handpiece
Applies thermal stimulation to the dermis layer,
aiding in the contraction of collagen fibers
and the creation of new elastic fibers.
📌 7mm Handpiece
Targets the subcutaneous fat layer
to break down fat cells and create
a deep tissue lifting effect.
Advantages of ONDA

1. Simultaneous Lifting and Fat Reduction
With a single treatment, you can expect
both jawline refinement and
double chin improvement.
It allows for effective removal of stubborn fat
and enhanced elasticity with deeper penetration (approx. 15mm)
compared to traditional ultrasound or radiofrequency treatments.
2. Minimized Pain & No Tissue Damage
COOLWAVES™ technology is applied
to deliver effective energy
while protecting the epidermis.
Although there is a slight sensation of warmth during the procedure,
redness, swelling, or bruising
are rarely observed.

3. Immediate Effects + Natural Changes
You can observe a 20-30% improvement in line definition
immediately after the procedure,
with gradual improvement as collagen regeneration becomes active within a week.
Generally, the effects
(with 3-5 maintenance sessions)
last for about 1 year.
4. Quick Treatment Time
The treatment time is short, about 20-30 minutes,
earning it the nickname ‘lunchtime lifting’.
You can return to your daily life
immediately after the procedure.
5. Applicable to Both Face and Body
It is also effective for body fat on arms, abdomen, calves, etc.,
and for improving cellulite.
Disadvantages of ONDA

1. Limitations for Severe Loss of Elasticity
It is suitable for mild to moderate skin sagging;
severe cases require surgery (incisional lifting).
2. Multiple Sessions Required
For optimal results,
3-5 repeated sessions (every 4 weeks) are recommended.
3. Highly Dependent on Medical Professional's Skill
The energy intensity (recommended 40,000-60,000 J or more) and
handpiece selection (3mm/7mm)
determine the outcome,
making the choice of an experienced medical professional essential.
4. Cost Burden
The average cost per session is 500,000 to 1,000,000 KRW,
which is more expensive than radiofrequency (RF)
but cheaper than surgery.
When ONDA is Suitable

✔️ Individuals in their 30s-50s concerned about mild jawline sagging
and double chin
✔️ Those who desire natural lifting
without pain or swelling
✔️ When you want to manage body contours as well
🚫 It is unsuitable for severe skin sagging or
if you desire immediate dramatic results.
💡Tips before treatment
When the energy intensity is set to 40,000-60,000 J or higher,
effective results can be expected.
If you also have a double chin,
combining it with fat-dissolving injections
can create a synergistic effect.
(However, it is recommended to do this 5 days before the ONDA treatment.)
You can feel a firmer result
about 1 week after the treatment, rather than immediately.
❓ONDA vs. Other Lifting Procedures

ONDA lifting can be a suitable choice
for those who are hesitant about surgery
but desire a more powerful, combined effect
than HIFU or RF treatments.
